Morning Musume: Through Changes

During the "Golden Era" as it is popularly called, Morning Musume faced triumph as they were named as Japan's No. 1 Female Group and with their super hit single "Love Machine that sold 1.7M copies. In contrast, at present, AKB48 has ow beaten that record, including their other records as a female group. Now, Morning Musume is being drawn against the challenge of living up to the legacies it had embarked for years in view of its current standing, having only sold 50K copies above and at least having to reach that 100K mark in their recent singles.
Along with the astounding upshot in the high and low cycles of Morning Musume's popularity that we face, is a question worth to be ruminated: "Did Morning Musume lost its position being one of Japan's finest and prominent idol group considering a great loss in their number of sales? Or did the test in its strength and stability has only made the group grown shinier?

For the longest time, we have been dead beaten by the redundant issue on "Morning Musume losing it's popularity" or "It's the end of MM because most of their senior members already graduated and only th new gens are left". Now is about time to get rid of those concerns we heard and read on all forms of public media and converge ourselves on the current MM, in which in my opinion continues to step p their A-game.

The previous years is probably a harsh time for MM. However, we must take into consideration what the group has become for years of its existence ---- it has now produced 11 generations of Musumes, they were able to withstand the test of time for being in the industry for 15 years. Not only that, they still hold the record for the highest no. of singles to be on Oricon Top 10, all of its 52 singles included. They were also crowned as one of the Top Selling Girl Groups in the world, together with another Jpop group, SPEED. And lastly, it engraved it own name not only as H!P's flagship group but as well as Japan's legendary group.

Looking at the present facts and current scenario, we can infer that what over-weigh the most are their years of lying colors over their years of mere infirmity. Yes, they no longer sell as good as they did during the golden era and they currently don't have a million selling single like AKB48 (it would be much silly to deny that fact) but the current line-up stll have that intrinsic drive towards keeping the legacy of the group alive! t this crucial point what's sticking next to the group is the quest for continued excellence and victory.

So what we ought to do? Our idols needs more than a tidbit of collaboration from us, fans. Being the primary stakeholders of their idol life, it's counter intuitive that we have our work to execute. In simple deeds of continuing to support them is already a huge help.

Indisputably, the cyclic facet of MM's popularity has not served as a channel for the group to loss its legendary esteemed records, but has served a a fuel for it to flamboyantly  shine with brimful courage against all odds. Given the fact that they have lived a lot of years in the summit, a few nasty times is not that awful. perhaps just like any car's engine, they need to take breaks and restart for a while for them to go extra miles farther

  2. MM FTW~! no one can beat them in staying in this industry for the longest period. also every gen has it's ace~! been supporting them since the 5th - 6th gen joined, although most of them have graduated, but i still feel that the 10th,11th and 12th gen has alot of potential.

  3. I think that H!P has played it's cards very badly for a long time. You can see it from todays MM; There's a huge generation gap. When Reina and Sayu both graduate, there is only younsters around. I'm not saying that it's only a bad thing, but it tells about poor decicions from the managment.
MM really started to sink when those big personalities (like Yuko Nakazawa) graduated. The new girls took way too long to develop a personality and those personalities weren't as loud as the J-Tv's programs need, IMO. Besides that, they messed up the graduated MM's.
As I mentioned the new girls aren't as bad choices as couple bland generations before them. They have also broke some walls of predictibility with things like Erina's Gaki worshipping videos. I think they should utilize more things like that to get the new fanbase going on. AKB48 stirred up the scene so much. You need get more interactive action with fans today than before.

    1. The generation gap was intentional. Between 8th and 9th generation there were 4 years, previously new girls were added each year. Why? Because Tsunku had realised that the public couldn't tell the girls apart anymore and their names weren't household names anymore. So he put the new generations on hold to give the people a chance to get to know the current members better before adding new ones. When Reina and Sayu graduates there will only be youngsters left, that's true, but if we look to the idol industry as a whole, not many members in it are over 22 years old. Fukuchan has the experience from being an Egg for a long time before joining MoMusu and I think she'll do a great job being the new leader after Sayu. Having only new members will be a chance at a new beginning for MoMusu. This coming from a girl who's been a MoMusu fan since 2005.

But I totally agree with you that they messed up the graduated members.

      Sorry for wall of text ^^;

  4. The thing is that MM use to be everywhere. Look on YouTube and you can see all sorts of shows they went on. Game shows, talks shows, everything. People need to be reminded the MM IS still there! They need more promotion. They need to start recognizing their international fans and do things outside of Asia.
Lately several of their songs sound a lot alike. They need to mix it up, give them some awesome, powerful, emotional ballads. (like Furusato)
Plus he just plain needs to stop favoring certain girls. I can't stand Reina and more. She's been dominating the group for some time and with her being the "it" girl she lost her inner Yankee. She's just become boring and now he's "secured" her future with Lovendor. I'm really happy for her and I wonder how that's going to go.

    So to sum it up:
    More promotion
    More for International Fans
    Less favoritism
    Less similar sounding songs

    1. hahaha... I totally agree with
      More promotion
More international fans (sadly, H!P does seem to have a different definition of "worldwide" events)
Less favoritism ( though I really love Reina)

  5. MM has a lot of problems and we all know that: they're creating a new golden era, isn't it? but even sayu sang more in the golden era than now... sing a 'uh' or 'ah' or 3-4 girls that sing daisuki like 'da' - 'i' - 'su' - 'ki' - isn't even a word, alone means nothing. It seems a new era but when there was the 9nin line up lead by Takahashi, when there were girls that never sang. If he want to do the golden era again he should stop that. Also let her favourite shine but with a limit. I remember when Rika sang the spokes parts or the 'cute' parts for let her sing but not too much, he should do that now. Althought Konno was one of the most popular he doesn't let her sing much, now is the opposite, he give half of the song to Riho that (hater or fan admit it) can't sing so well like everyone says, they gave space to Ayumi that also her can't sing very well and put other girls behind (Haruka was an excellent egg and was the 'winner' of her generation). He should stop to put her favourite first althought they can't do something, he should realize that now only Reina have the experience and the ability to sing properly. Sakura is good but very new to this world, and he doesn't let Mizuki and Haruka (that between the new ones are the most experienced) sing more (althought lately Mizuki is singing a bit). Plus, he really should STOP to pick up people that don't have ANY abilities just cuz they're semi-known by someone: I know they're idols and the most important is their look but is just sad see the front girls don't be the best dancers/singers ever, the under girls are even worst, some of them are even useless on TV programs cuz they do nothing. And this is the beginning, MM have a lot of problems and is useless bash AKB for being the most popular, even Momoiro Clover Z now is more popular than MM, and Fairies are aiming to be like their senior... there're a lot of other groups with more talented girls than MM so they should stop to pick up 'useless' girls.

    1. yup, it does seem that they are creating a new era with the current generation.. and I don't like it too when the other girls just get to sing syllables instead of lines... That's why I'm so happy with Buresto coz it's not just a Reina X Riho show, everyone gets a line.. Though, in my opinion, Riho is a good singer but not as great as Ai or Reina. And yeah, Ayumi's singing ability is not that great but well, she's an awesome dancer =)....I'd like to see Mizuki and Haruka being pushed in front too, they have potentials... But in general, I wouldn't necessarily call them "useless" XD...
