Are New Units Replacement for BeriKyuu and S/mileage?

Tsunku had announced that he is planning to debut more groups from the eggs starting this year or next year. Starting with this new unit (no official name has been announced yet for the group), composed of Miyamoto Karin, Kanazawa Tomoko, Miyazaki Yuka, Uemura Akari, Takagi Sayuki and Otsuka Aina.

Putting that aside, I found something here, a question "Do the new groups make you worried that they may be thinking of replacing the old groups like Berryz Koubou, C-ute, S/mileage?"
In S/mileage's case, I don't think new units are meant to be their replacement, they're far too young to start disbanding. The most possible theory would be that Tsunku might just make this new unit as S/mileage rival? well, I did sense something like that when he decided to include the Eggs in one of their concerts, though I forgot his exact statement, but the eggs presence was meant to stimulate S/mileage to work harder.

As of now, Berryz Kobou and C-ute are the oldies in H!P when it comes to the average age of the group. And we all know that anyone from H!P starts graduating when they are over 20s. So yeah, I'm a little worried for them. I don't want them to disband yet. C-ute is just starting to be getting more popular after their 2 best selling single. Even their recent album surpassed Morning Musume's 13 colorful character. C-ute still has a bright future ahead, they have proven themselves to be H!P's powerhouse when it comes to dancing. I just hope they'll have decent sales with Kono Machi cause they didn't do well with the first day sales T.T. With Berryz Kobou, well, they don't do as good as C-ute when it comes to sales but they've been doing good outside Japan, especially in Thailand. So I hope, Tsunku wouldn't give up on them just yet. Of course, they would not be able to avoid graduation but I'm crossing my fingers that before they do so, they would at least have a No. 1 single too with over 100k sales......

Nonetheless, I'm happy with this new group, especially with Karin in it and I'm pretty sure that most of her fans are ecstatic to see her finally debut. She may not have made it into S/mileage or Morning Musume during the auditions, but we all know Tsunku might be reserving her for something big and this is it. Just as the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait" =)

  1. If a group were to disband I think it would be BK. C-ute's doing way too well with sales and popularity to disband yet. However I think it's unlikely any of the groups would completely disband yet. Graduations maybe, but not disbanding.

  3. Given Koharu's recent announcements -- point to one group being pushed out because of sales or one idol?

They kept Melon Kinebi long past when they were selling, the only reason TC Bomber disbanded is because some of the girls wanted to do other things and they kept Inaba Atsuko on call despite her pretty much being a session recording background voice.

Why would you think they'd "push" someone out averse to... say... the girls themselves deciding to leave?

  4. While the idea of Berryz or C-ute calling it quits in the immediate future is something that becomes more of a concern each year due to their ages and tenures, it's also something that certain people like to jump on and run with just to see the whole fanbase squirm. The other commenter's comparison to Melon Kinenbi is a very apt one, as they lasted well into their late 20s with only one single that sold decently, whereas the H!P Kids units have a much more solid following. And the idea that S/mileage may be done soon is laughable; they're still young and new and their sales remain consistent.

If anything, it's more likely that the new unit(s) represent H!P's continued push into regaining relevance that they've been attempting for the past year or two, and things are starting to pick up steam now. And considering how young and inexperienced all the new members are, it helps to have veterans stick around to guide them.

  5. Well, Look at Ai, she was 24 or 25 when she graduated. While I know that the HPKs will eventually all graduate, it's not going to be in the next few years. They're doing too good. If you look at it, H!P has a lot fewer groups then they use too. I think they could do with more idols, especially with AKB48 having so many girls.
All and all, I think they need an edgier group to balance out S/Milage, who's just really adorable. (In a good way!)

  6. I'm OK with them calling it quits on BK and C-ute at this point, so long as Buono remains intact and active...
